Britton McGrath Associates develops Dover Castle Business Plan for the CABE Sea Change funding initiative
Situated on the South Coast in the heart of the East Kent – Pas de Calais region and with a population of just 105,000, the town of Dover is recognised nationally and internationally for its role as a major port, its war-time associations and for the stunning natural beauty of the white cliffs.
Despite these high awareness levels however, Dover is currently perceived as a gateway rather than a destination in its own right.
Dover Castle is one of English Heritage’s flagship sites attracting some 300,000 visitors a year. In the context of the market place however, and based on its historic significance and high levels of public awareness, Dover Castle has further potential.
Dover District Council and English Heritage have worked together to develop the Connecting Cultures Initiative which is designed to ‘join up the parts’ of Dover and significantly improve the quality of the tourism offer in the town.
Britton McGrath Associates were responsible for developing the Business Plan for Dover Castle which will go forward as part of the Connecting Cultures bid to CABE for £4 million of match funding within its Sea Change initiative. |
